Did you know…
That doing any type of recording with copy written material is against the law unless that material has been individually licensed to the person doing the recording. This includes personal audio, video or television recordings in your home, studio, school, church or other venue. However, you do not have to break the law because Chartbuster Karaoke tracks may be licensed to you for your own personal projects.

License Registration
APPLYING FOR MECHANICAL LICENSES
If you are planning to sell your finished product, you must apply for a Mechanical License, which covers only the audio, from the publisher(s) of the song you wish to record. Below is a guideline to work by:
Go to the web sites of BMI (www.bmi.com) and/or ASCAP (www.ascap.com) and/or SESAC (www.sesac.com). Once you have located the home page, enter the respective sites under the following headings:
BMI The Catalog Go to Search BMI Catalog
ASCAP ACE on the web Go to Ace Title Search
SESAC Repertory Online Go to Repertory
You can then research the website(s) for information either by song title or artist.
If you do not have Internet access, you can research the information by calling the following:
BMI Research Dept. 615-401-2000
ASCAP Research Dept. 212-621-6160
SESAC Research Dept. 615-320-0055
Ask for the writer(s) and publisher(s) for each song you wish to record. Be aware that you should check all three agencies. Some songs may be listed with one, two, or all three of them.
Once you have the information, contact The Harry Fox Agency in New York. Harry Fox is an agency that represents many publishers and issues mechanical licenses. They collect royalties on behalf of many publishers. Their address is:
The Harry Fox Agency
711 Third Ave.
New York, NY 10017
212-370-5330
You must call them to find out exactly what information they need from you in order to issue the licenses.
Note that there are some songs that are published by independent publishers. If Harry Fox does not represent a particular publisher, they will advise you that they don’t. In this case you must apply directly to the independent publisher to obtain the license.
I hope we have helped you in your endeavor with your recording project. Should you have any further questions feel free to contact the Chartbuster Music Licensing Department.
